Alkaline Hydrolysis – Statement from the ICCM

Choice is paramount in the delivery of modern bereavement services. We are currently witnessing one of the most significant changes in funerary practice for over a century with the introduction of alkaline hydrolysis in Scotland.

Over the past year in particular, we have been in regular contact with those involved in developing and implementing these changes. As you would expect, there are still a number of important questions that require careful consideration before we are in a position to deliver appropriate and robust training for our members.

On Monday, ICCM Technical Officers Jennifer Hamilton and Oliver Thompson spent the day at Kindly Earth in Herrington, undertaking in-depth training on the technical aspects of the alkaline hydrolysis system, and we will continue to develop and widen our knowledge.

The ICCM remains fully committed to supporting you, with our sole focus on the needs of our members and the people who will access these services. Ensuring that any guidance and training we provide is thorough, accurate and practical is our priority.

We will continue to monitor developments closely and we will update you as soon as there are significant advances to communicate.
