Your Role
Dunstable Cemetery, located in the heart of the town, is a tranquil, historic and Green Flag award-winning site managed and maintained by the Council and it offers a peaceful sanctuary for reflection and remembrance. As well as the cemetery and many other parks and open spaces, the Council also manages 6 allotment sites.
As the Council’s Cemetery Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day administration of the burial service including booking and attending funerals, managing and approving memorial applications and dealing with funeral directors, stonemasons and bereaved families. You will also be responsible for the administration, letting and inspection of all the Councils allotments. You will be supported by a full time Grounds and Cemetery Administration Assistant.
About You
We are looking for someone with excellent customer care skills and an ability to work efficiently and effectively, prioritise workloads and develop systems and processes to support the delivery of high-quality burial services.
You will be a good communicator demonstrating that you can deal with people sensitively and empathetically. Strong organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team, across departmental boundaries and with external organisations will be essential. You must have sound and accurate record keeping skills and a keen attention to detail. You must have a flexible ‘can do’ approach to work and be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
