{"id":10361,"date":"2026-05-14T11:28:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T10:28:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iccm-uk.com\/iccm\/?p=10361"},"modified":"2026-05-14T11:28:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T10:28:18","slug":"iccm-south-wales-branch-newsletter-networking-meeting-friday-12th-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iccm-uk.com\/iccm\/iccm-south-wales-branch-newsletter-networking-meeting-friday-12th-june\/","title":{"rendered":"ICCM South Wales Branch Newsletter \u2013 Networking Meeting  &#8211; Friday 12th June"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10362\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iccm-uk.com\/iccm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/download-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"203\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We are pleased to invite members to our upcoming ICCM South Wales Branch Meeting, which will take place on <strong><em>Friday 12<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0June at the historic Cyfarthfa Castle, Brecon Road, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8RE.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong> Following the meeting (at 2 pm) we will undertake a visit to Aberfan Cemetery, offering time for reflection at one of\u00a0Wales\u2019\u00a0most significant memorial sites.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting\u00a0provides an excellent opportunity to connect with colleagues, share best practice and discuss key developments within the sector.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting will be kindly sponsored by the Columbaria\u00a0Company who will have some exhibits to\u00a0showcase\u00a0to attendees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cyfarthfa Castle \u2013 A Brief History<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cyfarthfa Castle, an iconic landmark of Merthyr Tydfil, was built between 1824 and 1825 for the Crawshay family, prominent ironmasters who played a key role in the industrial development of the town. Designed in a grand Gothic Revival style, the castle\u00a0symbolised\u00a0the wealth and influence generated during the height of the iron industry in South Wales.<\/p>\n<p>In the early 20th century, the castle was gifted to the people of Merthyr Tydfil and has since served as a school, museum, and art gallery. Today, it stands as an important cultural and historical asset reflecting the area\u2019s industrial heritage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aberfan Cemetery \u2013 A Place of Remembrance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The visit to Aberfan Cemetery offers an opportunity to reflect on the tragic events of 21 October 1966, when a colliery spoil tip collapsed onto the village of Aberfan.
