{"id":361,"date":"2020-02-07T15:52:55","date_gmt":"2020-02-07T15:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.myassettrac.co.uk\/iccm\/?page_id=361"},"modified":"2020-02-14T13:56:40","modified_gmt":"2020-02-14T13:56:40","slug":"foetalremains","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.iccm-uk.com\/iccm\/foetalremains\/","title":{"rendered":"foetalremains"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"pl-361\"  class=\"panel-layout\" ><div id=\"pg-361-0\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-361-0-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-361-0-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-headline panel-first-child\" data-index=\"0\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-headline so-widget-sow-headline-default-eb58c90b4a68-361\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><div class=\"sow-headline-container \">\n\t<h2 class='sow-headline'>SENSITIVE DISPOSAL OF FETAL REMAINS<\/h2>\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"decoration\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"decoration-inside\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-361-0-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text panel-last-child\" data-index=\"1\" >\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #47555e;\">Research into\u00a0the disposal of fetal remains was carried out 1998 with the findings\u00a0being disturbing.\u00a0A large\u00a0number of fetal remains were being disposed of as clinical waste\u00a0with many\u00a0crematoria\u00a0refusing to deal with multiple disposal of these remains.<\/p>\n<p>The ICCM policy\u00a0is that\u00a0the sensitive disposal of fetal remains through cemeteries and crematoria is more appropriate in\u00a0a caring society.<\/p>\n<p>The Institute has consulted with Sands on the recent review of its policy and guidance and had representation on the group formed in Scotland by the Scottish Parliament tasked with issuing guidance to hospital authorities.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #47555e;\"><\/p>\n<p>The ICCM policy is now widely accepted and many cremation authorities have\u00a0adopted it and are improving the standards of service to the parents of these babies by providing a sensitive means of disposal.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst records indicate that approximately 40,000 foetuses are cremated in a sensitive way by the majority of crematoria there remains circa 100,000 that are unaccounted for.
