The Health Protection (Coronavrius, Restrictions) (No. 2) (England) Regulations 2020 – 3rd July 2020

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (No. 2) (England) Regulations 2020 were introduced by the Government on 3rd July 2020. The Regulations revoke various sections of the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020, as amended by the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2020, including Section 5, which required that crematoria be closed except for funerals. This means that from 4th July 2020 crematoria can continue to provide funeral services as well as open their buildings for non-funeral purposes. However, social distancing remains in force, therefore crematoria can continue to set a limit on the number of mourners allowed at a funeral based on their local risk assessment and ability to comply with social distancing requirements. Members are also advised to give due consideration to Section 5 of the Regulations, that limits attendance at gatherings to 30.

We are awaiting specific guidance from Public Health England on managing funerals, and will inform members once this has been received.
