  • Deputy President and Director Election Results
  • Following a count of the votes received, overseen by the Board of Directors, the Board are pleased to announce that Marian Webb was elected as Deputy President, and Linda Barker was elected as a Director. Marian and Linda will take up their positions on the Board at the AGM on 23rd September. The Board wish to thank everyone who stood for election, and all members who voted.

  • ICCM AGM 2019 and Annual Accounts
  • Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (Inc) will be held at 14:00 on Monday 23rd September 2019 at the Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth, Warwick, CV8 2LD.   • Scottish Government Publish former Inspector of Funeral Director's Report
  • The Scottish Government have announced the publication of the former Inspector of Funeral Director's Report to Scottish Ministers on the introduction of a regulatory model including Progressive Licensing scheme for Funeral Directors in Scotland.   • Deputy President and Board Elections
  • Members are reminded that the closing date for the return of the ballot papers for the office of Deputy President and Director to the National Office is Friday 30th August. Members are also reminded that Simon Ferrar is standing for Deputy President and not Philip Ewing as indicated on the ballot paper. Please change the name on the ballot paper before returning.


  • Film Screening at the Convention
  • We are delighted to announce that we have secured an exclusive screening of the film Dead Good, followed by a Q and A session with the Director, on the final morning of the ICCM Learning Convention and Exhibition, Wednesday 25th September. The film is described by Dame Emma Thompson as 'beautifully crafted, so comforting as well as moving and gives the wisdom forth so simply and compellingly. Everyone should see this'. The film has only been on limited release, so this represents an excellent opportunity to not only see it, but also to question the Director about her experiences in making the film and discussing how we can learn from it.   • The latest edition of the Medical Examiner Bulleting can be viewed here.


  • Deputy President and Board Elections
  • Members should have recently received ballot papers relating to this year's election for Deputy President and Director. It has come to light that there is a mistake on the ballot paper relating to the election for Deputy President. The ballot paper shows that Philip Ewing is standing for Deputy President, but this should read Simon Ferrar. Please change the name on your voting slip before sending it back. Apologies for any inconvenience.

  • The Competition and Markets Authority has published a working paper as part of their investigation into the funerals sector. The paper, Approach to profitability and financial analysis, is available here.


  • Inspector of Crematoria for Scotland Report
  • The Inspector of Crematoria for Scotland has published his annual report for the period 1st April  2018 - 31st March 2019. A copy of the report can be seen here.


  • Children's Funeral Fund
  • The Ministry of Justice has released Technical Guidance relating to the operation of the Children's Funeral Fund for England. The Guidance can be seen here.   • ICCM Learning Convention and Exhibition 2019
  • This year's Learning Convention and Exhibition is being held at the Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth, from 23rd to 25th September. An exciting programme of speakers and special events will feature, together with a large exhibition of suppliers, products and services to the bereavement sector.   • Fundraising Walk to the Learning Convention and Exhibition
  • The ICCM Technical and Member Services Officer, Mat Crawley, is walking from his home in Merseyside to the Convention in Warwickshire, a total distance of 111 miles. He is walking to raise awareness of and money for the charity Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS). You can donate to SOBS by clicking here, and you can read more about Mat's fundraising walk in the Summer edition of the ICCM Journal, or by clicking here.


  • Scottish Government: Funeral Director: Code of Practice Consultation
  • The Scottish Government has announced the publication of consultation on the Funeral Director: Code of Practice. Please read the Code here, then answer the Consultation questions here. The Consultation will run for just over 12 weeks, until 20th September 2019; answers will be analysed and contribute to a final iteration of the Code, and the Code will be statutory, requiring all funeral directors operating in Scotland to adhere to it.


  • Able Futures

    The Able Futures Programme is a free scheme being run for the DWP for people in employment who may be struggling with mental health issues. The programme can be accessed via a freephone number by anyone who is over 16 and in employment. One in four of us is likely to experience some form of stress, anxiety or depression during our working lives. This scheme can help. Further details can be found here.



  • National Bereavement Care Pathway
  • The National Bereavement Care Pathway (NBCP) aims to improve the bereavement care parents receive after pregnancy or baby loss. It helps professionals to support families in their bereavement after any pregnancy or baby loss. The results of an evaluation of the NBCP, and further information, are available here.



  • ICCM Recycling of Pacemakers Scheme
  • The ICCM, in association with Orthometals, has launched a scheme to recycle pacemakers removed prior to cremation that will run alongside the ICCM Recycling of Metals scheme. Further information can be found here.
