The English Government this week introduced a three tier lockdown system to help control the increasing rise of Covid-19. The system has three alert levels – medium, high and very high.
Under each alert level, the new regulations allow funerals to take place only in Covid-secure venues or in public outdoor spaces with a maximum of 30 people in attendance. Wakes and linked ceremonial events (such as scattering or burial of ashes, stone-setting etc) before or after the funeral are limited to 15 people and must not take place in private homes.
Anyone working at a wake or funeral is not generally counted as part of the limit.
Venues must continue to follow guidance on making their premises Covid-secure.
Public Health England are currently updating their Guidance on Managing a Funeral During the Coronavirus Pandemic. This will be circulated to members once it has been published.
