RECYCLING OF METALS RECOVERED FROM CREMATION

LATEST SPRING 2020 – a record amount of £1 million is due to be donated in the next round of recycling nominations.

Scroll down to view photos of presentations and letters from charities. Remember, it is the bereaved that give their consent to recycle, the the crematorium staff, authorities and elected members that work with the bereaved to ‘make a difference’ that deserve the greatest thanks.
———————————————————————————————————————————————–
Based on the European scheme initiated by the Royal Dutch Cremation Federation the Institute’s recycling scheme continues to grow in partnership with Orthometals. Metals are recycled with the express consent of bereaved families being the persons entitled and empowered to make this decision.
Visit the Orthometals website – View the film of their process.

The full scheme information pack can be downloaded here

Further information and advice for cremation authorities is available in the downloads section below.

ICCM and Cremation Authorities – Working together and making a difference.

Next collection dates for 2020 – Orthometals will be collecting all through the month of March.
Please contact
julie.callender@iccm-uk.com if you require a collection.

Following alarmist and misleading comments regarding security of precious metals the Institute and Orthometals have produced a guidance note designed to assist managers. Your authority or company may already have security procedures that relate to the handling of cash receipts therefore those internal procedures and rules should also be instigated in respect of metals from cremation. Note that all metals removed by Orthometals will be documented on a transfer note with a copy of the same retained at the crematorium thus providing an audit trail. Crematorium managers are advised to instigate security measures for metals retained prior to collection.
